Soydairy owner

Its taken a while, but Ryan Howard is finally learning the joy of sleep.

I read that Einstein only needed three hours of sleep a night, and look what that dude did, Howard joked back in 2006. So if it was good enough for him, its good enough for me.

Well, listen to him now.

I have found the role I play in my company moving away from do it all man to being more focused on figuring out how to grow production and sales.

I still have to repair pumps and motors from time to time, but the company makes more money with me finding new customers and macro-planning our production growth. Its nice having employees do the production. And Im finally getting some sleep.

The Chicago Soydairy has added Teese vegan cheese to its product line of soy milk, soy ice cream and vegan marshmallows. Teese is a dairy-free soy cheese that comes in three flavors: mozzarella, cheddar and nacho.

soydairyHoward has been able to build on the success he had as a student at Purdue. Three times he entered a soybean utilization contest on campus, and three times he came away with the $5,000 top prize.

Agricultural engineering at Purdue gave me direction and prepared me mentally to be able to keep up with the stresses and challenges faced by entrepreneurs, Howard says.

More importantly, I was not afraid to venture into uncharted areas because I had confidence in my abilities. When I wanted to leave my engineering job and start a company, my family and friends had enough faith in me to invest in my dreams.

And as Howard is now learning, you cant dream if you dont sleep.
