Jeff Boyer

Jeff has been Superintendent at the Davis-Purdue Agricultural Center (DPAC) since 1994.  DPAC includes 460 tillable acres and 100 managed forested acres (Herbert Davis Forestry Farm) in Randolph County, Indiana.  Site Specific Agricultural Management projects at the DPAC involve the collection of volumes of data for later interpretation. Procedures for the organization and collection of field crop data have been implemented at DPAC to assist research scientists with Site-Specific Agricultural Management projects.  Data collected during scouting helps provide the great volume of data needed to interpret crop yields and remote sensing images of growing crops and soils.  Scouting during the growing season at DPAC occurs on a weekly basis with the goal of being in every field or research plot area every 7 to 10 days. Current equipment and software used at DPAC for this activity includes an HP Palmtop PC, Compaq Ipaq Pocket PC, Trimble AgGPS 132 GPS receiver, WAG Vision System and Delta Data Systems & Farm Works Farm Site Mate software in the field. Data is downloaded as Microsoft Excel and shape files to a desktop computer and then made available to researchers on a website managed by the Site Specific Management Center (SSMC).  Jeff has also held the position of Extension Ag Educator with the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in Randolph County.
