Lesson 12: How Much N, P, and K Does a Dairy Cow Excrete?

A method for estimating dairy cow N, P, and K output, a spreadsheet developed at the University of Nebraska, is available at the following website: http://www.ianr.unl.edu/manure. This Excel® spreadsheet estimates the excretion of N, P, and K by dairy cows, the quantity of nutrients remaining after losses, and the land needs for using these nutrients at agronomic rates. To generate more accurate estimates of nutrient excretion t and develop a nutrient use plan, you will need to enter the following information into the spreadsheet:

This user-friendly spreadsheet is based on data reported by University of Florida researchers (Van Horn 1992).
