Don Carlson, Forestry & Natural Resources

Woodland Timber Management
This project is dealing with the transformation, of once older woods, into a regenerated timber producing woods for future harvesting. Dr. Mill’s Department of Forestry & Natural Resource’s class have been working with improving the ecology of the woods and putting together a plan to use the woods for education events.

Wetland/CRP Work
This has been an extensive project beginning with 4,000 trees being planted, deepening the original wet area in the field to assist water accumulation throughout the entire year, and will conclude the construction with warm and cool season planted. Incorporated into the seeding will be management demonstrations and an individual variety selection garden. USDA & RC&D have been sponsoring groups and supporters of this effort as well. Our mission here is educational opportunities.

Community Garden
This project takes a small piece of land, donated supplies and a volunteer group in an effort to produce much needed commodities, fresh produce, to supply many of the area food pantries. This effort happens through volunteerism from FFA, Kiwanis, Rotary, RC&D, Farm Bureau and Lake County Extension.
