What is the Washington D.C. Internship Program?

 

The internship program is designed to provide a unique and rewarding experience in Congress, and governmental and non-governmental agencies. Each selected intern will receive partial funding to defray housing and some other expenses. Five interns will be selected for summer 2008.

Program Structure:

November 2007- Interns apply and are selected

December2007-Interns matched with placements; interns & placements make agreement

Spring 2008- Interns meet on campus for orientation sessions

Summer 2008-While in their DC placement, interns attend informational sessions

Fall 2008-Interns enroll in class or independent study to process their experiences

Who may apply?

  • Juniors or seniors in the College of Agriculture in any major
  • Students who demonstrate strong academic records, leadership skills, written and verbal communication skills, self discipline, and strong motivation and interest
  • Students who are returning to Purdue in fall 2008
  • U.S. citizens (some placements may be open to non-citizens)

To apply you must:

  • Email intention to apply by October 23 to lbarber@purdue.edu
  • Submit your application by November 1 to Lori Barber, AGAD 121

Your application must include:

  • Current resume that includes your leadership experiences and community activities
  • Transcript
  • Recommendation letter from a faculty member or other person who can discuss why you would be a good intern and why an internship would benefit you
  • Essay (two pages or less) discussing (1) how the internship will further your education and vocational goals, and (2) what internship area interests you most

 

Application Timeline:

  •   Attend callout on September 26 from 3:00-4:00pm in HORT 217 or October 16th from 5:00 - 6:00pm in HORT 217
  •   Submit application by November 1
  •   Interview with committee if invited in late november
