An
incredible diversity of plant and animal life thrives in Stout Woods.
Such biodiversity, plus the fact that this property looks pretty
much the same as it did when the first settlers arrived, is why Stout
Woods is now a dedicated Indiana Nature Preserve.
Indiana’s
system of Nature Preserves protects significant and unique natural areas
all over the state from being altered or destroyed. This ensures that
our natural heritage will be protected. Each property acts as a “living
museum” that the public can visit and that researchers can study. (For
more information on Nature Preserves, contact the Indiana
Department of Natural Resources. http://www.state.in.us/dnr/naturepr/index.html)
