Sizing Up the Forest

Measuring trees is done in a variety of ways. In this activity, students will learn how to determine the diameter of a tree from its circumference. They will also learn how to use an Abney level to measure tree height. After building their very own Abney Level, they will then put what they have learned to use, by measuring tall trees/objects around the school or home.

A ready-to-print & copy "How to Make An Abney Level" handout - which also has instructions for using an Abney level and instructions for converting circumference to diameter.
