EDUCATION

Postdoc. Evolutionary Genetics 1997-2000 University of Georgia (UGA)
Ph.D. Zoology 1994-1997 Texas Tech University (TTU)
M.S. Genetics 1992-1994 Texas A&M University (TAMU)
B.S. Wildlife & Fisheries 1987-1991 Texas A&M University (TAMU)

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Evolutionary genetics; molecular ecology and evolution; natural history; conservation biology; wildlife and fisheries management.

My lab group uses molecular markers to study otherwise cryptic aspects of biology. For example, we are interested in how natural and sexual selection act in concert to maintain major histocompatibility complex (MHC) variation in natural populations. My graduate students work on a variety of questions in ecology and evolution.

EDITORIAL BOARDS

Journal of Wildlife Management (2001-2006; genetics papers)
North American Journal of Fisheries Management (2003-2005; genetics papers)
Genetica (2004-present; mostly vertebrate papers)

FUNDING

Our work is funded by a variety of state, regional, and federal agencies.  These include the Indiana Department of Transportation/Joint Transportation Research Program, the Great Lakes Fishery Trust, the National Birds of Prey Trust, the USDA, and the National Geographic Society.  However, most of our funding comes from the National Science Foundation.
