Participation Agreement and Grade Assessment
- This course is designed to provide the student with an educational experience in the curation of museum specimens and the use of those specimens in a classroom setting. Your grade in this course will depend upon your level of performance on the following tasks:
Curation: - must obtain training in the preparation, maintenance, and management of museum specimens
- - must prepare a minimum number of specimens
- - must assist with laboratory preparation
- - must attend weekly TA meetings
- - must assist with help sessions
- - must assist graduate student in 1 lab section
- The aforementioned tasks are minimum requirements for completion of the course. Other opportunities may arise and take precedence over general duties and are subject to change by the course instructor. The semester duties will be divided up into two 7-week modules:
Module 1 :
- species identification (structures and taxonomy)
- attend weekly TA meetings
- assist with weekly laboratory preparations
- assist with using specimens in the teaching laboratory
- assist with help sessions
Module 2 :
- obtain training in use of dichotomous keys, data recording
- obtain training in specimen preparation, maintenance, and management
- preparation of study skins and/or skulls
- assist in upgrading species life history notes for lab manual
