| All students awarded
budgeted (Hatch, McIntire-Stennis, and general funds, including
Wright funds) graduate instructorships or graduate assistantships
must be in the thesis option; students funded on School of
Agriculture teaching assistantships or on extra-mural funds
may be in either the thesis or non-thesis option. Election
of the non-thesis option will be contingent on a joint agreement
between the student, his/her major professor, and the Department
Head. To ensure thorough program planning, an individual approved
for the non-thesis option should have a tentative plan of
study approved prior to registration in his/her first semester.
Based on funding availability
support for graduate instructors and graduate research assistants
on budgeted funds is limited to 24 months at the M.S. level
and 36 months at the Ph.D. level beyond the M.S. level.
For students beginning Ph.D. pursuits directly following
the baccalaureate degree, support is limited to 48 months.
Continued support for the designated period is contingent
on satisfactory progress. Any extension of support beyond
these limits must be requested and approved by the Graduate
Committee and the Department Head.
The awarding of financial
assistance based on extra-mural funds will be principally
the prerogative of the project leader. However, all students
thus supported still must be screened and approved for admission
to the graduate program by the Departmental Graduate Committee
and the Department Head.
