DIVERSITY IN AGRICULTURE
On of the most important, and unique, efforts in our campaign to increase diversity awareness and understanding within the College of Agriculture are the Diversity Forums, including the new Gender Forums. These forums are off campus, multi-day sessions that are facilitated by consultants specializing in diversity programming. Faculty, programmatic staff, students and alumni from the College of Agriculture, the College of Engineering and the School of Science are invited to attend, and adequate representation of gender and ethnicity is emphasized. Recent agriculture graduates help faculty understand their Purdue experiences, faculty discuss how they can be agents of change on campus and participants are challenged to look at diversity issues with a new perspective. Recently, invitation to participate in these forums has been extended to community leaders, enabling us to improve not only our campus diversity environment but that of our municipality as well. In addition, a short workshop for clerical staff has been implemented in 2004.
