    1950s

    Sanford Olson, BS ’59, Lopez Island, Wash., has retired after practicing small animal medicine for 33 years in Boston and Seattle. He and Corky, his wife of 46 years, enjoy island life in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. He is a board member and officer of The Friends of the San Juans, a countywide environmental organization, and he volunteers at the Lopez Island Medical Clinic and as an oil spill responder.

    1960s

    Ralph Neill, BS ’62, Corning, Iowa, is a board member of the Greenfield Bancorporation Ltd. and the Union State Bank, Greenfield, Iowa.

    Phillip Sparks, BS ’62, PhD ’65, Lafayette, Ind., is director of Indiana operations with Automated Direct Mail and Printing. They have produced six sets of Purdue note cards and postcards that can be found at www.purduecards.com, and they are producing card sets for various cities in Indiana.

    Graham AE Gall, PhD ’66, Davis, Calif., went on a safari to Kenya, his 20th trip with the Purdue Alumni Association.

    1970s

    Stephen L. Stringer, BS ’75, Indianapolis, has been promoted to director for grounds at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, where he has worked for the last 15 years.

    Melvin B. Amundson, BS ’76, recently moved to Oviedo, Fla., with his wife, Kathleen.

    Steven P. Jennings, BS ’78, Wichita, Kan., is regional credit officer with Rabo AgriFinance in Wichita.

    1980s

    Brent A. Higgins, BS ’82, Tulsa, Okla., and his wife, Deanna, have written a book, released in January, I Would Die for You: One Student’s Story of Passion, Service and Faith. It is about the life of their son, BJ Higgins, who died in 2005 at age 15 after contracting an infection while on a missionary trip to Peru.

    1990s

    Mark Evans, BS ’90, MS ’95, Greencastle, Ind., and his wife, Beth, BS ’92, MS ’05, welcomed Cody Nathaniel Evans on Feb. 26, 2007. They have another son, Justin.

    Steve Kluemper, BS ’91, MBA ’03, Louisville, Ky., has joined KeyBank’s food and agribusiness banking team. He is the father of Jacob, 9, Connor, 7, Andrew, 4, and Eli, who was born Aug. 13. He also finished the Oct. 21 Columbus, Ohio, half-marathon in 1:53.

    Kyle W. Arvin, BS ’92, Middlesex, N.Y., in July 2006 became director of the New York State Seed Testing Laboratory, located at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, N.Y. The lab is part of Cornell University. Arvin plans to begin graduate school at Cornell this spring.

    Angela A. (Aiello) Reincke, BS ’92, Apex, N.C., was one of 11 women awarded the “40 under 40 Leadership Awards” by The Triangle Business Journal for the Triangle Region. The award highlights young professionals who are strengthening their communities and improving the balance sheets at their businesses.

    Colleen A. (Fruits) Wininger, BS ’92, New Richmond, Ind., and Jim M. Wininger were married Sept. 2, 2006. Colleen has been assisting at the family business, Newtown Farm Service, which this year celebrates its 40th year in operation.

    Brian M. Makela, BS ’96, Wheaton, Ill., and his wife, Charity, announce the birth of their son, Gavin Matt Makela, on Nov. 26.

    Nancy J. (Miller) Reiff, associate degree ’98, Warsaw, Ind., and her husband, Jim, announce the arrival of John Michael James Reiff on Aug. 4. He joins his sister, EllaMae Hope Reiff.

    Samantha Starr, BS ’98, Noblesville, Ind., is engaged and also has a new son, who was born June 22. Starr is the manager of a painting company that her fiancé owns. They live in Noblesville with her 4-year-old daughter and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, who is 14.

    Amber (Frederick) Brad, BS ’99, MS ’02, Lafayette, Ind., and Dean Brad, BS ’99, MS ’03, announce the arrival of their twins, Ethan Frederick and Ava Marie, on Oct. 8.

    Michael Heintz, BS ’99, Columbus, Ohio, married Ilana Bromberg on Sept. 2.

    Michael Sprinkle, BS ’99, Fairland, Ind., is the 4-H youth educator with Purdue Extension in Shelby County.

    2000s

    Brett J. (Mongeon) Gagnon, BS ’00, Dover, N.H., married Jason Gagnon on Oct. 21 in a surprise ceremony at a local apple orchard attended by immediate family. None of the family knew they were gathering for a wedding.

    Heidi (Stout) Peterson, BS ’00, MS ’03, Bayport, Minn., and her husband, Joel, are the parents of Jonas James Peterson, who was born Nov. 22, 2006. Heidi also began working on her PhD in June at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering.

    M. Dawn Davis, BS ’01, Trafalgar, Ind., has rejoined the Indiana FFA as director of the Leadership Center in Trafalgar. She served the organization for five years after graduation from Purdue before working for the Indiana Beef Cattle Association.

    Justin Inman, BS ’01, Bedford, Ind., recently made the change from managing his local co-op to opening his own insurance agency in Bedford for Shelter Insurance Cos.

    Daniel Rice, BS ’01, Lexington, Ky., is pursuing an MBA at the University of Kentucky. His employer, Alltech Inc., offered him the opportunity to work in Brazil for a couple of years to get the company’s quality system up to speed. Alltech produces specialized yeasts as animal feed additives for export around the world.

    Nurgul Tankut, PhD ’01, and his wife, Ali, have a baby girl, Ceyda. They live in Turkey.

    Cari (Ostrom) Butcher, BS ’02, MS ’07, Flora, Ind., and her husband, Scott, announce the birth of their son, Kolby Morris, on Aug. 16. Cari is an agriculture science and business teacher at Caston Junior Senior High School.

    Suzanne (Bojko) Latino, BS ’02, Clarksville, Tenn., and her husband, Steve, announce the birth of their son, Andrew, on July 10.

    Chad Lothamer, BS ’02, Indianapolis, married Erin McCord on Dec. 10, 2005. He is a landscape architect with Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects in Indianapolis.

    Chad M. Rinker, BS ’02, is a manager of the Washington, D.C., office of LandDesign. He has been working from the company’s office in Beijing, China, planning a 58-square-mile community on Bohi Bay in Tianjin, 70 miles southeast of Beijing.

    Kathryn M. Rippel, BS ’02, MS ’03, Houston, Texas, relocated from St. Louis, Mo., in June as a result of a promotion to brewing area manager at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Houston.

    Julie (Williams) Haulk, BS ’03, Loogootee, Ind., married Matt Haulk on Sept. 8.

    Aaron Patton, MS ’03, PhD ’06, is the 2007 recipient of the Musser International Turfgrass Foundation Award of Excellence. An assistant professor and Extension turfgrass specialist in the University of Arkansas Department of Horticulture, Patton received the $20,000 award at the Golf Industry Show in Anaheim, Calif.

    Mandy (Wott) Leonards, BS ’04, Indianapolis, married Jerry Leonards on Oct. 22, 2005, in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico.

    Katie (King) Madsen, BS ’04, Lafayette, Ind., announces the birth of her daughter, Rose Marie, on Oct. 28, 2006.

    Kristen Paullus, BS ’04, Denver, Colo., has completed studies at Bel-Rae Institute of Animal Technology in Denver. She is a vet technician at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital.

    Mariah (Tanner) Ehmke, PhD ’05, Laramie, Wyo., and her husband, Cole, are the parents of their first child, Charlotte, born Oct. 22. Mariah is an assistant professor at the University of Wyoming in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, where Cole is an Extension specialist in agricultural entrepreneurship.

    Adam K. Peters, BS ’05, lives in Waverly, Neb., where he is the director of youth ministry at Peace Lutheran Church.

    Jeff Demerly, BS ’06, West Lafayette, Ind., and Jenna Hammonds, a 2007 graduate of the College of Consumer and Family Sciences, were married Sept. 15.

    Jessie (Leamon) Nesbitt, BS ’06, married Sam Nesbitt, BS ’06, on July 7.

    Deaths

    James Robert Owings, BS ’66, passed away Oct. 6 at his home in Eagle, Idaho.

    William J. Stadelman passed away Nov. 24 in Frankfort, Ind. He was 90. He joined the Purdue faculty in 1955 and taught poultry science, animal sciences and food science until his retirement in 1983. He wrote more than 230 publications, 133 abstracts, two textbooks and numerous book chapters.
