Ag economist new head of International Programs
After serving for two years on an interim basis, Jess Lowenberg-DeBoer has been appointed associate dean of agriculture and director of the Office of International Programs in Agriculture. "Dr. Lowenberg-DeBoer brings a wealth of experience in international agriculture research and education, as well as very relevant experience related to farm management in the context of our own state and nation," said Randy Woodson, Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture. "He is passionate about this work and will seek to facilitate the involvement of our faculty, staff and students in key international research and educational opportunities. The College of Agriculture enjoys a very strong position within Purdue and around the world as a leading institution in international agriculture. I know that our reputation and impact in these areas will only grow under his leadership." Lowenberg-DeBoer joined the Purdue faculty in 1985 and was a professor and Extension specialist in agricultural economics, focusing on agricultural production economics, including soil fertility management, cropping systems, technology adoption, risk management and financing. He spent four years in the Republic of Niger, West Africa, as leader of a Purdue project. Lowenberg-DeBoer earned his bachelor's degree in 1979 from the University of Iowa, his MS in 1982 from Cornell and a PhD in 1985 from Iowa State. He succeeds Dave Sammons, who became director of international programs at the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Contact Lowenberg-DeBoer at lowenbej@purdue.edu |
