Ag Alumni affiliates with Purdue Alumni Association
The Purdue Ag Alumni Association is now an affiliate of the Purdue Alumni Association (PAA). While the Ag Alumni Association has a long history of cooperative work with PAA and has always had a representative on the PAA board of directors, the agriculture organization had never taken full advantage of officially affiliating with Purdue’s universitywide alumni organization. As a PAA affiliate, the Purdue Ag Alumni Association will receive a portion of the dues paid to PAA by graduates of the College of Agriculture. “A very high percentage of agriculture graduates have always chosen to join PAA,” says ag alumni executive secretary Donya Lester. “Now a portion of their dues will be returned to us to help support alumni and student programs that will foster closer alumni relationships with our college. “For instance, we could use the money to support the commencement reception we now host for our graduates, or for any of the programming expenses of the Purdue Ag Fish Fry, our Gala Week activities or our Homecoming events.” For fiscal year 2005-06, the Ag Alumni Association will receive $1 for every member. Beginning in July 2006, the amount will increase to $2 for every dues-paying member. Currently 5,628 ag graduates, or one in every six ag alumni, are PAA members. Lester says she would like to see that increase to at least 7,000. Annual PAA dues are $40 for a single membership and $45 for joint membership. Alumni who have graduated since 2000 can join at special rates of $20 for individuals and $25 for joint members.
