The Fish Fry is a time not only for food and fellowship, but also for
recognition of outstanding contributions to Indiana agriculture.
At this year's gathering, the Ag Alumni Association presented its highest
award, the Certificate of Distinction, to four outstanding Hoosiers:
Lloyd F. Grove of Lafayette, William
W. McFee and Rex J. Warner, both
of West Lafayette, and Don B. Villwock
of Edwardsport.
President Martin C. Jischke also presented the university's highest
award, the Order of the Griffin, to Don Paarlberg,
BS '40, honorary PhD '79 of West Lafayette, a retired professor of agricultural
economics.
Instituted in 1938, Certificates of Distinction are presented annually
to persons who have distinguished themselves professionally and in their
communities with significant contributions to the agricultural profession.
Grove, who ended a 35-year Purdue career when he retired in 2000, made
significant contributions as a quiet, behind-the-scenes worker. As assistant
farm administrator, Grove was responsible for managing field operations
for Purdue's animal sciences farm projects.
