    1. Best advice…
Be prepared. Many times in my career I have found myself facing tough decisions. Those have always been easier to handle if I was well prepared before the decision was finalized.

    2. Boiler memory…
Besides meeting my future wife, I remember the camaraderie of my fellow food science students as we prepared for examinations and presentations. We bonded together to help each other succeed in the program without any jealousies for someone doing better than another.

    3. Thank you…
Dr. William N. Eigel hired me to assist in his laboratory doing dairy research. His subtle actions and caring direction motivated me to become a better student and developed my passion for research. I went on to be Dr. Eigel's first doctoral student, and enjoyed every year I worked for him.

    4. Great escape…
My involvement in Scouting enables me to pursue two of my passions - developing tomorrow's leaders and spending time in the outdoors.

    In his words:
"My years at Purdue University taught me the value of working hard and how to search for answers. I had a great deal of respect for my mentors in the food science program. They helped me set my career objectives, and I've never been disappointed."
