1. Because students sample wine during the class, FS 470 may be the only Purdue course that requires each student be at least 21. 2. On a rotating basis, different students distribute food so the wine tasters can cleanse their palettes between wine samples. 3. Elizabeth Blythe checks the clarity of a wine sample, one of the many ways the students learn to evaluate a glass of wine.
4. Heather Weaver gives her wine a swirl to check for sediment in the bottom of the glass. 5. In FS 470, each student, like Jessica Rogers, here, is limited to one ounce of each wine sampled. 6. Pamela Baron (left to right), Shelley Finnigan and Guy Mazzotta show there is more than one way to evaluate a wine.

7. Students, divided into teams, also learn how to open bottles and serve the product to their classmates. 8. A quartet of FS 470 students in various stages of wine appreciation and evaluation.
