Rado Gazo helped steer this trawler, the Ursa Major, through Alaska’s Inner Passage in 2002. He was a captain-in-training aboard the 65-foot wooden trawler that ferried tourists from Seattle to Sitka, Alaska.

On his Alaskan adventure in 2002, Gazo skirted the ice floes in a small powerboat.

Gazo played the role of rugged fashion model during the Alaskan voyage, suited in waterproof clothing for an outdoor magazine.

Providing fresh fish (like this cod) for the passengers on the Ursa Major was easy and rewarding for Gazo.

Back in fresh water, Gazo and his wife, Eva, paddle about in boats he built.

Gazo and Rob Wright, who learned together on the Ursa Major in 2002, got together again in 2003 to bring the Alexa S from Europe to the United States.

With waves crashing over the top of the seawall, the crew of the Alexa S waited for the seas to calm before beginning their trans-Atlantic Ocean journey.

Gazo spent some additional time aboard the Alexa S when she was docked at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this spring.

Like a recreational vehicle that tows a small car, the Alexa S carries a small boat that allows Gazo to zip around the dock area.

Among the ultra-rich in Fort Lauderdale, the 95-foot Alexa S is just another multi-million dollar yacht.
