Ag student steps up to lead student body
"It was unfortunate that Greg didn't come back to school,"
Warner says. "I think he just became consumed by the responsibilities
of having to go to all those meetings. But I look at it as a unique
opportunity."
Warner says she has applied what she learned as a high school FFA member
to help her make the transition to the top spot in the Purdue student
government system: "FFA taught me how to communicate and work with
different people, how to motivate people and that delegating authority
is a good thing."
And Warner found that it is good to have good people to whom she can
delegate.
"Chris Geswein (senior, agricultural economics) is my vice president,
Jason Morehouse (junior, agricultural economics) is student body secretary,
and Scott Priebe (junior, agricultural economics) is president pro-tem
of the student senate. People ask me, 'Hey, where did all these ag people
come from?' Well, these are really quality people, people who learned
a lot about leadership in 4-H and FFA. It has been great to be able
to work with them."
But it's not just about sharing the workload. Warner's ability to delegate
says a great deal about her desire to help others excel, too.
"The thing that stands out about Stephanie is her humble demeanor,"
says her agricultural education adviser, Allen Talbert. "Even with
all of her past experiences, accolades and accomplishments, she is content
to let others shine and grow themselves."
