1940s

Roy Swanson, BS '40, turned the small rural Marshall County chicken farm he started 63 years ago into the Swan Lake Golf Course decades ago. Now that development has been transformed into a full-fledged resort with 36 holes of championship golf, a 33,000-square-foot banquet and meeting facility, a gift shop, and a conference center with the capacity to seat 1,300 people. Roy is retired and lives in Argos, Ind.

Phillip Johnson, BS '42, Oceanside, Calif., served three terms in the Indiana Legislature, following his grandfather (1920) and father (1936). They were the first Indiana family with three consecutive generations to serve in the legislature.

1950s

James Phillips, BS '57, St. Mary's, Ontario, Canada, retired in 1995 from Cyanamid of Canada Ltd. Since then he has owned and operated a 200-acre cash crop farm just outside the St. Mary's city limits. James has four grandchildren, two in Indianapolis and two in Chicago. His hobbies are sailing on Wildwood Lake in the summer and doing tractor and truck restorations in his workshop during the winter.

1960s

Michael Hudson, BS '68, Culver, Ind., celebrated 30 years with American Airlines at Chicago O'Hare Airport. Michael will continue flying to Tokyo and London on 777's for a couple more years before retiring.

Dick Nash, BS '62, and his wife, Nan, received a Meritorious Service Award from the Indiana Pork Producers Association at the IPPA annual meeting in Indianapolis. The award honors pork producers and others who have provided exceptional support to the industry. The Nash farm in Sharpsville, Ind., was a leader in the successful campaign to eradicate pseudorabies in Indiana. Dick

Nash served on the State Board of Animal Health board of directors for six years and was a member of the agency's Swine Advisory Committee for more than 20 years.

Jim Hopf, BS '70, West Lafayette, Ind., was recognized at the Pioneer Hi-Bred International regional sales meeting in Bloomington, Ill., for completing 30 years with the company.

1970s

Rick Brandenburg, BS '77, professor of entomology at North Carolina State University and co-director for the Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education, won the 2002 John V. Osmun Alumni Professional Achievement Award in Entomology. The award, named after long-time Purdue University entomology professor and former department head John Osmun, goes to Purdue entomology graduates who have distinguished themselves in their profession.

Steven Hopkins, BS '78, Noblesville, Ind., has transferred to Monsanto's corn research station in Greenville, Ohio.

Michael Joyner, BS '78, Belton, Texas, became president of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association on March 1. He would like to thank Dean Vic Lechtenberg for believing in him 25 years ago and for providing support and guidance.

1980s

Richard Grazzini, MS '80, received the 2002 Outstanding Science Alumni Award from the Eberly College of Science Alumni Society of Pennsylvania State University. Grazzini is president of Exygen Research Inc. in State College, Pa.

Shana Hunt, BS '84, Paragon, Ind., bought 55 acres six years ago and is finally turning it into a farm. Her land now has a barn, fence and chickens, and she hopes to have cattle and horses soon.

Robert Carson, BS '85, Statesville, N.C., is a dairy-tech specialist with Bartlett Feeds in Statesville.

Reed Blair, BS '86, recently started a new position after being furloughed by United Airlines in Indianapolis. He is now a manufacturing engineer for Carrier Corp.'s Residential Gas Furnace Division in Indianapolis. Reed and his wife, Laura (Daniels, BS ME '86), live in Avon, Ind., with their 6-year-old daughter, Veronica. His hobbies include barefoot water-skiing and helping his brother with his farm in Muncie.

Brett Burk, BS '86, Edmond, Okla., is a sales rep with Elanco Animal Health in the Cattle Business Unit, covering south central and western Oklahoma. He is married to Gigi, and they have two daughters, Tabor, 5 and Micah, 3, and are expecting their third child in July.

1990s

Jodie Brown, BS '96, Liberty, Ind., is an agricultural loan officer and assistant vice president at the Bath State Bank in Bath, Ind. On Sept. 7, 2002, she married Brian Creek, BS '98, who farms with his father.

2000s

Erica Gacsala, BS '02, Rochester, Ind., has joined Cargill Animal Nutrition in Mentone, Ind., as the cost of goods sold manager for the Midwest region.
