The Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association has
honored the top three 2001 graduates in the College of Agriculture.
Joshua Merrill, Thorntown, Ind., who received his bachelor's degree
in quantitative ag economics, was selected the outstanding senior. Ben
Hasse, Kingsford, Mich., and Elisha Priebe, Ladoga, Ind., were runners-up.
Hasse majored in forestry and Spanish; Priebe majored in agricultural
education.
"It's an honor to be recognized as outstanding, especially when you
consider the group of students I was chosen from," Merrill says. "Any
one of us could have been justified as the Senior Medal winner."
Nominees for the outstanding student awards are recommended by their
adviser or program study coordinator and must apply for the award. Recipients
are chosen based on academic achievement and leadership record.
"They are an impressive group," says Karl Brandt, associate dean and
director of academic programs for the College of Agriculture, who presented
the awards at the senior chili supper April 24.
"The selection committees always comment on the difficulty of choosing
just one. We have such great students in the competition."
