Offering strawberries and other produce is a popular agritourism venture in Indiana. |
More and more, landowners who are looking to start a new business venture or expand an existing operation are considering agritourism. Farm tours and markets, u-pick farms, wineries, and bed and breakfast inns are among the most popular agritourism ventures.
Purdue Extension has produced the Indiana Resource Guide for Agritourism to help make entrepreneurs aware of the possibilities and the pitfalls of starting such an enterprise. “Usually the owners understand production very well,” says Jerry Nelson, Purdue Extension New Ventures educator. “What they need help with is promotion, partnerships and polices. There is usually much confusion about liability issues, creative ways to get people to come out to the farm and getting enough capital to start their business.”
You can download the resource guide at www.ces.purdue.edu/extbusiness/value.htm or pick up a CD version at any Purdue Extension county office.
