Leading the way

Renee McKee and Sam Cordes

Purdue Extension has two new program leaders with the appointment of Renee McKee and Sam Cordes.

McKee, a 26-year veteran of Purdue Extension, has been named State 4-H and Youth Development Program Leader. She was an educator in Carroll and Warren counties before becoming a Purdue Extension 4-H Youth specialist on campus.

“The challenge for us as leaders is to help those people who think 4-H is just the county fair and nothing more,” McKee says. “We need to help them to see that 4-H is so much more than that. It’s not just a rural program—it is a total educational experience set in a positive environment for the kids.”

Cordes is program leader for Leadership and Community Development and an assistant director of Extension. He will focus on community visioning and planning, economic and business development, work force development and local government needs. “Our goal is to help communities think about and plan for the future,” says Cordes, formerly of the University of Nebraska. “Purdue Extension can provide them with the information, education and local organizational capacity to help make that happen.”
