Leader of the pack

Leader of the pack Indiana farmers will have some work to do this year to top the production of the state's leading crop counties for 2001, according to the Indiana Agricultural Statistics Service (IASS) at Purdue.

White County finished first in total corn and soybean production while Posey County was first in winter wheat production.

Clinton County had the highest corn yield with 174 bushels per acre. Carroll and Rush counties led the state in soybean yield with 56 bushels per acre; Tipton County placed first in winter wheat with 91 bushels per acre. Statewide totals for 2001 were corn, 884.52 million bushels; soybeans, 273.91 million bushels; and winter wheat, 25.08 million bushels.
