Agriculture takes the lead in a changing environment
|
|
Within the past two years, Purdue Agriculture has celebrated two centennials—Purdue Extension in 2005 and the Department of Agronomy in 2007. In the early part of the 20th century, efforts from both focused on improving the productivity of individual farmers so that they could feed their families and, if all went well, have something left over to sell.
The small research plots and early outreach efforts provided the foundation for Purdue Agriculture to develop the science and technology to transform agriculture into the global economic force it is today. Over the past 100 years, agriculture has evolved from food production to encompass the environment, energy, human health, medicine, land use, food security and world
hunger. You’ll find evidence of our leadership throughout this issue of Agricultures.
With farming as our roots, Purdue Agriculture will continue to lead the industry into the future and help it meet the challenges of the 21st century.
