Purdue joined a distinguished list of historic landmarks when the American Society of Agricultural Engineers honored the pioneering accomplishments that led to the development of grain aeration.
A plaque, which was presented in April, recognizes the efforts of U.S. Department of Agriculture engineers George H. Foster and Robert N. Robinson, who worked for many years at Purdue and in 1949-50 demonstrated the effectiveness of aeration in large, horizontal grain storage.
This is the first historic agricultural engineering landmark award received by Purdue. It joins 38 other such landmarks around the nation that recognize achievements such as Cyrus McCormick's development of the grain reaper and Eli Whitney's cotton gin.
