Ralph M. Woodward, BS ’41, Terre Haute, Ind., is a member of the board of directors of Busseron Conservancy District and still has some farm responsibilities. He and his wife, Winifred, met at Purdue in summer school in 1940.

Robert F. Taylor, BS ’48, Fort Wayne, Ind., at the age of 84 is finishing 20 years of substitute teaching in science, math and vocational agriculture. Because he was a member of the Purdue Symphonic Band and Marching Band, he also has taught band classes. Taylor’s professional career included stints as an Extension educator, high school teacher, agribusiness manager, bank vice president, and Extension supervisor at Purdue.

Lawrence “Doc” Stauffer, BS ’58, DVM ’67, Delphi, Ind., received the Veterinarian of the Year Award during the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association’s 124th annual meeting.

Terrance (Terry) P. Riordan, BS ’65, MS ’68, PhD ’70, Lincoln, Neb., is the Cyril Bish Professor of Horticulture and director of the Professional Golf Management Program at the University of Nebraska. He received his Class A membership in the Professional Golfers’ Association of America in December.

Michael R. Baldwin, BS ’70, Indianapolis, has retired after 36 years as staff forester for the Indianapolis Power & Light Co. He continues to serve on the Indianapolis/Marion County Tree Board.

Gary Bauer, BS ’71, Mason, Mich., was promoted to professor with tenure at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Mich., where he teaches estate planning in a clinical program.

Sue A. Shadley, BS ’74, Indianapolis, is founding partner of Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP, an Indianapolis law firm that specializes in environmental law. For 2008, Shadley was listed in Indiana Super Lawyer for environmental and administrative law.

Stephen (Rick) Tolman, MS ’78, Ballwin, Mo., received the 2008 Agribusiness Leader of the Year Award from the National Agri-Marketing Association.

Mike H. Wilson, Allendale, Ill., who earned an ag certificate in ’79, was named Ag in the Classroom Volunteer of the Year by the Illinois Farm Bureau in December.

Bradley T. Sheares, PhD ’82, received an honorary doctor of science degree from Purdue in May. Sheares, from Lower Gwynedd, Pa., is chief executive officer of Reliant Pharmaceuticals Inc. He received a Distinguished Agricultural Alumni Award in 2002.

Timothy P. Bush, BS ’85, Eagan, Minn., is assistant fire chief in Maple Grove, a Minneapolis suburb.

Mark Calhoun, BS ’92, Chicago, married Sara L. Pluth at Forest Park, Ill., on Nov. 10. He is a supply chain manager for Kraft Foods and is also a member of the Indiana National Guard. He is on a one-year deployment to Iraq as an acquisition officer. He served in a similar role in Afghanistan in 2004-05.

Nicole (Curtis) Meachum, BS ’94, Hartford, Mich., received the 2008 Teacher of the Year award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She, her husband, Jason, and son, Spencer, have a 2,500-acre fruit, vegetable, and cash crop farm, which earned the 2007 Master Farm Award from the Michigan Vegetable Council.

Sean Murphy, BS ’94, Smyrna, Ga., passed the International Society of Arboriculture’s arborist exam to become a certified arborist. In late 2007, he sold his landscape architecture firm (formerly Amenity Architects LLC) to Southeastern Engineering Inc. and assumed a new position as the director of planning and landscape architecture at SEI.

Daniel Duncan, BS ’95, MSED ’02, has accepted a position as senior instructional designer with Zimmer Inc. in Warsaw, Ind. He and his wife, Jennifer, have relocated to Warsaw from San Francisco.

Matt John, BS ’95, Columbus, Ind., recently moved back to Columbus to work for Ivy Tech-Columbus as the agriculture program chair.

Melissa Kasper, BS ’97, Clearwater, Fla., is engaged to Andrew Yarbrough, and they plan to be married on Nov. 1 in North Redington Beach, Fla. Kasper teaches elementary students with autism at a center in Tampa and is working to obtain her endorsement from the University of Florida to teach autistic children.
