Connections wins awards

Purdue Agriculture Connections won two awards at the Agricultural Communicators in Education 2001 convention in Toronto, Canada.

The publication earned a gold award in the newsletter category and a silver award in the writing category for a story about Fred Phillips (BS '95). A landscape architecture graduate, Phillips headed a project to reclaim a portion of the Arizona desert into a recreation area for native Americans.

Members of the Connections team are Mindy Jasmund, designer, Frank Koontz, editor, Marian Sipes production assistant, Christy Denault, contributing editor, and Tom Campbell, managing editor. Steve Tally, Beth Forbes and Steve Leer contributed stories to the winning entry.

ACE members submitted 440 entries in the 2001 Critique and Awards program. Organized in 1913, ACE is an international association of communicators and information technologists in education, government and research.

The National Agricultural Alumni Development Association also honored Connections with a second-place award in its annual alumni and development publications competition. Connections has won two firsts and one second in the last three years of the NAADA competition. The award was presented at NAADA's national convention at North Carolina State University on June 24.
