Ordering educational materials is easy with MDC

The role of Agricultural Communication’s Media Distribution Center, or MDC, is a mystery to many of you. Many might even confuse the MDC with the MMDC. I’d like to help out by telling you a little bit about the AgComm MDC and its role in Purdue Extension.

The AgComm MDC fulfills all orders for Purdue Extension education materials — if you order a brochure, book, CD, or other educational items from Purdue Extension on the phone or online, we take and fill your order. We fill orders from Purdue Extension offices around Indiana and from customers around the world.

Last year, MDC took in more than $850,000 in revenue from 6,900 orders. Of that, $52,900 and 1,084 orders were generated from online sales.

We are not the Materials Management and Distribution Center, or MMDC. The MMDC is where you can order foam board and other supplies.

AgComm MDC typically processes each order within two or three work days — and often sooner. And when Purdue Extension county offices order materials from the MDC, they can have them shipped directly to their offices, or they can pick them up at the MDC.

If you choose to have your order shipped, our primary shipper is UPS ground and AgComm MDC will bill your office for the actual shipping fee. Once shipped, orders usually arrive by the next day, but some areas, such as southeast Indiana, generally take a few days.

If you are going to be on campus you may also pick up your order from the AgComm MDC dock. When you order, tell us the date you expect to pick up the order and we will have it on the dock and ready for you.

Finding us

AgComm MDC moved back to campus in June 2001 and we’re now located in the SERV building at 231 S. University St. — see map http://www.agriculture.purdue.edu/agcomm/mdc/directions.html for details. If you ever need help finding us, call me at (765) 494-6795 or Kathy Lester at (765) 494-6794.

When you pick up your order, please sign and date the half fold copy hanging on the shelf, then place the signed copy in the box on the second shelf of the longest set of shelving. This helps us track the order in case there is an inquiry about it.

Don’t forget, the general public can order Purdue Extension education materials from us, too. Let them know that they can order online at the Purdue Extension Education Store at www.ces.purdue.edu/new or by calling the Purdue Extension toll-free number (888) EXT-INFO.
