FINALLY, OUR JUST DESSERTS

Soy-U-Enjoy Introduced to Snack Food Industry

Beverly Hills, March 1, 2003 -  Lulu's Dessert Corporation in Vernon, CA is offering a healthier alternative to a favorite dessert. Maria de Lourdes Sobrino, Founder and CEO of Lulu's Dessert, has joined forces with the Indiana Soybean Board (ISB) to launch Soy-U-Enjoy, a tasty gelatin-like snack that contains healthy soy protein and comes in an assortment of flavors.

"I'm very excited about this," said Sobrino. "We've worked hard to establish an extensive line of quality products, and Soy-U-Enjoy opens up a whole new category for us."

In 1999, Ryan Howard and Faye Mulvaney's soy-based dessert won the State Soybean Utilization Contest sponsored by Purdue University and the ISB. After meeting with countless manufacturers and food scientists, the Board struck a deal with Lulu's, which has exclusive worldwide marketing rights to the product. Lulu's will unveil Soy-U-Enjoy this month at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA. "I think it's a great match for us," said Randy Smith, ISB New Uses Manager. "We were looking for a company that has a history of producing quality products. We want to give this new soy dessert maximum exposure, and we believe Lulu's can do just that." Lulu's is currently negotiating a distribution deal with American Natural and Specialty Brands. Under that arrangement, the snack would first be available at natural and organic food outlets and then roll out in more traditional retail outlets sometime in the future.

An all-natural product, Soy-U-Enjoy has 100% of the daily requirement for Vitamin C, is a good source of calcium, and is naturally fat free and cholesterol free. In addition, Soy-U-Enjoy is a completely vegan product, contains no animal bi-products, and uses only natural flavoring and coloring. The appeal of such a product rests not only in the healthy alternative it provides for kids, but the fact that adults can revisit a treat they enjoyed as a child-without the dietary concerns associated with more traditional desserts. Served in a 4 oz. cup, Soy-U-Enjoy will hit the marketplace in five flavors: strawberry, lemon, orange, mango, and kiwi. A patent is now pending on the product and a sugar-free version is in the works.

Established in 1982, Lulu's Dessert is ranked among the largest and fastest growing Hispanic businesses in the United States. The company recently expanded its facilities to Vernon, CA, where it manufactures products currently distributed in domestic and international markets.
