To make a stem cutting, cut off a shoot tip 4 to 6 inches in length.
• Recut the base of the cutting just below a node.
• To slow water loss from the cutting, remove 1/2 to 2/3 of the leaves, starting at the base. If the remaining leaves are large, cut them in half.
• Dip the base of the cutting in rooting hormone, then gently tap off any excess powder.
• Prepare a planting hole in the damp potting mix with a pencil. Place the cutting in the hole, and firm the potting mix around the stem. No leaves should be touching the potting mix.
