In 2005 awareness of folic acid reached its highest level since first measured by Gallup in 1995. Currently, 84 percent of women between the ages of 18-45 report they have heard or read something about folic acid, up from 52 percent in 1995. Increases in specific knowledge of folic acid’s benefits were also observed during this time period. However, a less dramatic increase occurred in the proportion of women who consumed a vitamin containing folic acid daily – from 28 percent in 1995 to 33 percent in 2005.
