Purdue Weed Day offers plot tours and weed control updates
Purdue Extension will host its 2012 Weed Day program June 28 at the Throckmorton Purdue Agricultural Center near Lafayette. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. The farm is at 8343 U.S. 231 S. Participants will tour herbicide plots to see new herbicide resistance trait technology in corn and soybeans and how it compares with products currently on the market. “Weed pressure is quite good, and post-emergence treatments have been applied,” said Bill Johnson, Purdue Extension weed scientist. “We will also have trials to address spray water quality and its impact on herbicide efficacy.” Weed science graduate students will be on hand to discuss their research. Program organizers have applied for three Category 1 continuing certification hours (CCHs) for Indiana commercial pesticide applicators. The program is free, but registration in advance is required. It can be completed at http://www.btny.purdue.edu/weedscience/temp/WeedDay2012.html or by calling Amy Deitrich at 765-494-9871. Refreshments will be provided.
