DTC Winter Workshops at six Indiana locations in '07

The Purdue University Crop Diagnostic Training and Research Center will once again be hosting its annual winter workshop series at various Indiana locations throughout the month of February.

"Our primary reason for hosting the workshops this year is the result of questions about corn following corn and nitrogen management," said Corey Gerber, workshop coordinator. "More producers are interested in corn following corn because of corn prices and the recent surge of ethanol production in the state."

Purdue Extension specialists Bob Nielsen, Jim Camberato and Brad Joern will cover topics relating to nitrogen and corn after corn recommendations, results of the 2006 Purdue nitrogen rate trials and information on how producers can participate in the 2007 nitrogen rate trials.

"When we talk about the nitrogen rate trials, we will discuss what we looked at and how the trials went in 2006," Gerber said. "We will also tell people how they can sign up to help with the 2007 trials."

Certified Crop Advisers in attendance will receive up to three Continuing Education Units (CEUs): applying for one Crop Management (CM) and two Nutrient Management (NM) units.

Workshop dates and locations are:

* Feb. 13 – Pinney-Purdue Agricultural Center, Wanatah.

* Feb. 14 – Northeast-Purdue Agricultural Center, Columbia City.

* Feb. 15 – William H. Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center, West Lafayette.

* Feb. 16 – Southwest-Purdue Agricultural Center, Vincennes.

* Feb. 27 – Southeast-Purdue Agricultural Center, Butlerville.

* Feb. 28 – Madison County 4-H Fairgrounds, Alexandria.

All workshops start at 8:30 a.m. local time and will conclude by 1 p.m. Because of room space, enrollment is limited and participants are asked to pre-register by logging onto www.agry.purdue.edu/dtc . Cost of registration is $20 per person and includes lunch.
